I Whale Always Love You: Mad Libs Do’s and Don’ts

As soon as I saw some wedding mad libs, I knew I had to have them.  And so, we had them!  We had one at each seat along with a pen.  (Actually, we somehow lost some of them before the wedding, so we didn’t have one at each seat… that’s still one of those mysterious things that we can’t explain.)  We had them printed on bright blue, and it made each table look really good.

Now that I’ve done it, I’m super glad we did this project.  Even Mr. Whale agrees that it was an awesome idea. (He wasn’t on board in the beginning, but I told him he had to trust me.)  But I do have a few suggestions for future couples.

DO:

  • Make them yourself.  It’s so easy to do in Microsoft Word.  Just use lots of textboxes and move them around.  It took me about an hour to make mine.
  • Make sure you have extras.
  • Print on paper that’s a little heavier than regular paper.
  • Make different versions.  I wish we had made at least three different stories.  It’s getting a little old to read the same thing over and over again.
  • Have someone test it out.  I’m so glad I posted mine on the ‘Bee, because I had made a few mistakes.

DON’T:

  • Print them on paper that’s too dark… Ours are just a little hard to read.
  • Read them all at once.  They’re funnier spaced out over time 🙂

Now that you know what to do, I know you want to see some of our favorites from the wedding.

One of the groomsmen’s mom made this one.  But she was too embarrassed by how inappropriate it ended up sounding to put her name on it.  So she signed it Carl Sagan. Ha.

Our officiant, Mike, was so proud of his.  He was so proud that he actually memorized it and kept quoting it the next day.

Some of our guests chose not to follow the traditional Mad Libs directions and instead filled in their own actual advice.  I enjoyed these as well.

Of course Mr. Whale should always “bow to my prowess”.

One of the best parts of the mad libs was where we were wished many _____ _____ for years to come.  Here, we are wished many bad-ass socks, which I totally hope comes true.

Some advice was mind-bending.  Don’t forget to explode before you implode?

Apparently, our guests really like cats, because they made quite a few appearances in the mad libs.
